POLICA drops third single from collaborative album with Stargaze

POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e have released their third single off their upcoming full-length album. The song is called "Speaking Of Ghost" and has been premiered by Fader. Go here to listen!

“‘Speaking of Ghost’ included a sample of mine and Ryan’s 10 month old son at the time playing drums. He was on the road with us for the first performance of the song in Berlin. It's a note of memories from the first year of his life and it ends with a message to him for his future when I'm gone. He was my constant companion while writing this record: I'd write the lyrics by trying out different melodies and stories on him while I sang him to sleep: he was my silent audience...felt like singing for a ghost.” - Channy Leaneagh of POLIÇA

POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e will take their collaboration on the road starting tomorrow for a limited run of dates that includes stops in New York, POLIÇA’s hometown Minneapolis, and Chicago. Full dates listed below--get your tickets HERE.

Introduced via the Liquid Music project run by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota, with the hope of a cross-genre collaboration, POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e first met in Berlin in 2016 in s t a r g a z e conductor André de Ridder's living room. While the collaboration started in the same room, the process continued as an 18-month long "ping pong" match as the bands exchanged ideas and music over email, mp3 files, video conferencing, and the occasional meet-up in Berlin, Minneapolis, and Eau Claire. Both bands were adamant that whatever they created "not just be POLIÇA songs with s t a r g a z e pasted on top," as POLIÇAvocalist Channy Leaneagh puts it, and the end result is the most adventurous and forward-thinking music either group has made to date.

Lyrically, this is in many ways an album of tensions — of sorrow and intense joy, of beauty and confusion. "It's about those contradictions in life," Leaneagh says. "How you can be going through tragedy, never-ending wars, but you still also are dealing with human relationships and love and romantic troubles." It is a reflection of the strange and sudden darkening of our times. "Everybody in s t a r g a z e and POLIÇA is a little older. I grew up in a time in America that was before the internet, in a time when the schools in America were the least segregated that they'd ever been. In a time when we had turned towards progress after the era of Jim Crow, and lynching, and the Ku Klux Klan. And we're back in that right now in America. And in a lot of places in Europe too. We had our hands on progress and then it flipped. So the songs deal with that, lyrically, and musically they do too — with the idea that we're still human beings and we’re trying to find happiness and the love of our lives, or a career to be happy about, but then we're also trying to find world peace and end racism."

For both bands, this record is "an example of the truly healing effects of making music with your friends," says Leaneagh. “And while it doesn’t necessarily make things better, it builds community.” Music For The Long Emergency will be released on February 16th via Totally Gross National Product/Transgressive. POLICA shares first video from upcoming album

Minneapolis-based electronic quintet POLIÇA and European orchestral collective s t a r g a z e will release their debut collaborative album Music For The Long Emergency on February 16th. Today they share the stunning visuals for the second single from the record, “Agree,” which depict the journey of two outlaws and culminate in an event that cements their fates into an eternal love. “[‘Agree’] felt like a song for a lover,” says director and editor Maria Juranic, “there seemed to be a push and pull in the lyrics, which inspired the idea of a dangerous relationship like the one of the outlaws.

New JM Airis LP, Sans Frontieres, available November 22nd

Sans Frontieres slows the pace of time to capture the beautiful moments when the city settles into pure nature. Like the vines between the skyscrapers, it grows and takes over, as everything else falls to dust.

Relationships are formed from the disintegration of old ones, and maintaining them is a waiting game between emotional failure and the failure to remain in existence for the other. In Sans Frontieres, JM Airis holds the two rivals together through images and sounds that flow together before separating into opposing charted courses.

-Mike Blaha

TGNP is proud to release the third album by NYC based recording artist Jm Airis (Indian Summer 2011, Wild Birds 2014). Sans Frontieres continues on the trend of spaced out Americana.  Whereas past records were fleshed out in the studio as solo endeavors, Sans Frontieres has the band assembled these tracks out on stage and in the studio as a unit over the past 2 years.

This was an important record for me to see through, these songs and recordings I will forever enjoy listening to and remembering the period in which this recording documents, with the friends that made it happen...meeting in NYC ten years ago, out at each others shows...in the bars, making plans, forming this band around the last record and then making this one in between everything.
Like some undefined reminder, Sans Frontieres from New York City to as far as the eye can see.  A couple of a hold squares pushing out another plate of wax with stories putting the dust country on notice...that our eyes are growing thin from one vision focused on dancing on the dusk of the horizon.
The same river crosses the roads you know with the roads I know so Sans Frontieres says we're going to the same place.
I sang about the dividers but I was wrong; I thought those were barriers to define but there was never any difference and every minute is an indian summer anyways.  Say the songs without the lines my Wild Birds, flown above, sweat below and if the sun is your god praise your breath.
- JM Airis 2017

Sans Frontieres will be available digitally on Novemebr 22nd. Vinyl copies can be ordered here: https://ambientmerch.com/collections/tgnp
